Enabling CUE VoiceView Express for CME
VoiceView Express is a powerful tool providing a telephone-based interface for end users to manage their voicemail services. Beyond simple management of a user's inbox and Greetings management, VoiceView Express is the only interface available for a user to create and send broadcast messages. VoiceView Express is actually quite a nice interface - far better and more user friendly, I would suggest, than navigating Unity prompts. I could certainly imagine users preferring to use VoiceView Express for voicemail management.
VoiceView Express is enabled by default, however there are a few configuration tasks must be undertaken on the CME side to enable the service for users. These tasks are as follows:
- The Services URL must be configured under telephony-service. The Services URL must point to "http://Cisco-Unity-Express-hostname/voiceview/common/login.do".
- The Cisco documentation states, rightly, that the Authentication URL must point to "http://Cisco-Unity-Express-hostname/voiceview/authentication/authenticate.do". CME does not have an authentication server built-in, so CUE starts an authentication server, and the idea is that this server acts as the primary authentication server for VoiceView Express. VoiceView Express will *appear* to work without the URL Authentication string configured. However, RTP will fail. There is very little you can do in VoiceView Express without RTP working!
- The phones must be enabled for the phone user interface, and have a type defined in the ephone configuration (this is important).
- VoiceView Express must be enabled in CUE (it is, by default)
My configuration is as follows.
telephony-service
url services http://192.168.255.98/voiceview/common/login.do
url authentication http://192.168.255.98/voiceview/authentication/authenticate.do
If users access Services from their Phone now, they will be greeted with the rather ambiguous "CME Service URL". We can clean this up by specifying a name for the Service. In the following example, the service option "VoiceView Express" will be presented to user, creating a much more positive experience.
telephony service
url services http://192.168.255.98/voiceview/common/login.do "VoiceView Express"
Users will be prompted to login to VoiceView Express, unless they have pinless login configured in CUE. The system administrator can verify, in real-time, the actively logged in users and RTP sessions. Observe in the following output both Steve and Terrance are logged in, and Terrance has an active RTP session (either listening to voicemail, or recording a broadcast message).
